<spanclass="anchor"id="line-90"><pclass="line874">Time to save your map. Save it in q4base/maps/tutorial/room.map (you may need to create the “maps” and “tutorial” directories as needed). You can save it anywhere you want within maps, but it has to be somewhere in q4base/maps in order for the game to load it. <spanclass="anchor"id="line-91"><spanclass="anchor"id="line-92"><pclass="line867">
<spanclass="anchor"id="line-93"><pclass="line874">Being able to move and resize textures is a key aspect of building your level. You’ll notice in the example map the edges of the plating panel doesn’t line up with the corner of the room. To fix this first we’ll have to turn on Texture Lock in the preferences: <spanclass="anchor"id="line-94"><spanclass="anchor"id="line-95"><pclass="line874">Hit “P” for Preferences and then select “Snap T To Grid.” Make sure this is checked and select ok. What this does is allows you to move textures based on your grid size. More on grid sizes later. <spanclass="anchor"id="line-96"><spanclass="anchor"id="line-97"><pclass="line874">With the one wall selected, hold shift and hit an arrow button. You’ll notice the texture begins to shift. You can use this to line up the edges of your textures with your world architecture: <spanclass="anchor"id="line-98"><spanclass="anchor"id="line-99"><pclass="line867"><imgclass="attachment"src="./LevelEditor_BasicRoom?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=image08.jpg"title="attachment:image08.jpg"/><spanclass="anchor"id="line-100"><spanclass="anchor"id="line-101"><pclass="line874">To further expand on texture manipulation and grid sizes let’s build a pillar somewhere in the room. To do this, let’s make the pillar 64x64 units. One way to do this is to draw it out on our current grid size to be the size that we want, or we can switch the grid to a larger size to make sure our brush is exactly the size we want it. <spanclass="anchor"id="line-102"><spanclass="anchor"id="line-103"><pclass="line874">Hit “7” on your keyboard. The minor grid lines should disappear and leave you with just the major grid lines. You are now on the 64x64 grid. Draw a new brush somewhere in your room. You’ll notice that you have to draw it slightly bigger for it to appear and it’ll snap to these larger grid lines. Hit the number “4” to go back to the 8x8 grid and you’ll see all the minor grid lines appear. <spanclass="anchor"id="line-104"><spanclass="anchor"id="line-105"><pclass="line874">Play with the numbers 1-7 to view the different grid sizes available to you. <spanclass="anchor"id="line-106"><spanclass="anchor"id="line-107"><pclass="line874">Finish your pillar by selecting it and using either the Z Window or using ctrl-tab to switch views to stretch it out vertically: <spanclass="anchor"id="line-108"><spanclass="anchor"id="line-109"><pclass="line867"><imgclass="attachment"src="./LevelEditor_BasicRoom?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=image09.jpg"title="attachment:image09.jpg"/><spanclass="anchor"id="line-110"><spanclass="anchor"id="line-111"><pclass="line874">Now we’re going to need to texture this pillar with a cool pillar texture to make it look interesting. To do this, load the common_walls directory the same way that we loaded them in previous. Select a texture that looks like it’ll fit on the pillar: <spanclass="anchor"id="line-112"><spanclass="anchor"id="line-113"><pclass="line867"><imgclass="attachment"src="./LevelEditor_BasicRoom?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=image10.jpg"title="attachment:image10.jpg"/><spanclass="anchor"id="line-114"><spanclass="anchor"id="line-115"><pclass="line874">We’ve now got a pillar set up. If you wanted to get a bit more in depth you can also select faces to texture them differently. To do this you can ctrl-shift-left click on any surface in the 3D window and select it. Do this on one of the faces of the pillar and then once it’s selected, select a new Texture in the Texture window: <spanclass="anchor"id="line-116"><spanclass="anchor"id="line-117"><pclass="line867"><imgclass="attachment"src="./LevelEditor_BasicRoom?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=image11.jpg"title="attachment:image11.jpg"/><spanclass="anchor

This is where the player spawns so it’s important to make sure this is inside your room somewhere.
