This removes 3 uniforms, consisting of 9 floats. Those were merged into other values that never get used at the same time.
It also moves the costly setup of the fixed colormap out of the render state into the 2D processing code.
Since 3D forces use of render buffers now, it is no longer necessary to draw the entire scene with the colormap active, meaning it can be handled more efficiently.
These files are not part of the actual renderer but part of the system code.
This means, for separated modern and legacy GL renderers, there still will only be one set of this, unlike everything else.
* the MAPINFO options now get handled in g_mapinfo.cpp and g_level.cpp, just like the rest of them as members of level_info_t and FLevelLocals.
* RecalcVertexHeights has been made a member of vertex_t and been moved to p_sectors.cpp.
* the dumpgeometry CCMD has been moved to p_setup.cpp
This theoretically means that the software renderer could access this data as well - if it just had been written with a more flexible texture interface.
However, as things stand, this may require quite a bit of work to achieve.
This was done to clean up the license and to ensure that any commercial fork of the engine has to obey the far stricter requirements concerning source distribution. The old license was compatible with GPLv2 whereas combining GPLv2 and LGPLv3 force a license upgrade to GPLv3. The license of code that originates from ZDoomGL has not been changed.
Regular skies need it off but SkyViewpoints need it on - and all others need to use the parent's setting.
So without engine side tracking we can end up rendering the sky with this setting off, resulting in omission of the fog layer.
- use sampler objects to avoid creating up to 4 different system textures for one game texture just because of different clamping settings.
- avoids flushing all textures for change of texture filter mode.
- separate sprite and regular dimensions on the material level to have better control over which one gets used. It's now an explicit parameter of ValidateTexture. The main reason for this change is better handling of wall sprites which may not be subjected to such handling.
- create mipmaps based on use case, not texture type.
- allows removal of FCloneTexture hack for proper sharing of the same sprite for decals and other purposes.
- better precaching of skyboxes.
After thinking about it for a day or so I believe it's the best option to remove all compatibility code because it's a major obstacle for a transition to a core profile.
- disable GL_ARB_buffer_storage when a -glversion parameter less than 4.0 is given. According to the spec this extension requires 4.0 so if emulating something lower it should not be used.
