Phase Gates
Function: instantaneous travel from one
map location to another very effective for
staging assaults, or linking bases, especially
on the more sprawling battlefields. At this
time, if more than two gates are active, a marine
cannot choose which gate is his destination
(so may have to try more than once to get to
the desired gate). Gates have no way (as of
this manual's writing) of determining friend
from foe so be aware that a curious Kharaa
may step through one, right into your base.
Until
now, personal phase gates have been too expensive
and unstable for general use. The TSA stunned
the Trans-Govs by revealing they had a working
prototype a carefully timed information leak,
that had much to do with their winning the Frontiersmen
charter. Since then, it has since seen vigorous
field testing. There are still some kinks to
work out noted above. But they have become
cheap and reliable enough to enter general use.
Once in place, they make it much easier for
Frontiersmen to control an area and muster troops.
