596628530b improve mission pack loading from cmdline and via the 'game' command:
interpret -missionpack and [-]game missionpack as the same as a new
QuakeSpasm extension.  besides, do not let loading of the mission pack
directory twice.

ae876c943b changes/fixes to 'game' command, to replicate FitzQuake Mark V behavior:
* make 'game' command to strip all mission pack support
* make 'game' command to accept an optional second mission pack argument,
  i.e. -hipnotic, -rogue or -quoth.
* so the new behavior does:
  game id1 --> really returns to bare id1 game, doesn't accept any mission pack arguments
  game xxx -hipnotic --> strip down to id1 game, load hipnotic and load xxx on top of them
  game xxx --> strip down to id1 game and load xxx on top of it
* additionally, some extravaganza:
  game xxx --> if the game is already xxx, but the engine was started with -hiptonic
               or -rogue or -quoth, strip down to id1 and reload xxx on top of bare id1
  game xxx -hipnotic --> if the game is already xxx, but the engine was started without
              -hiptonic, strip down to id1, load hipnotic and reload xxx on top of them

dc4799f48a in_sdl.c: Rename the mouse filter functions for consistency.
Also surround the SDL version by "#if defined(USE_SDL2)" and "#endif", this
suppresses an unused function warning when building for SDL1. (Building for
SDL2 still gives an unused variable "modstate" warning though.)

db43cf1836 gl_screen.c: make the console speed independent of the current resolution. Before, switching to a really high (e.g. 2880x1800) resolution would make the colsole take several seconds to open/close
Not totally sure about this but i think it's a decent idea. I'm using 800x600 as a reference screen size (arbitrary choice but it's the default QS resolution). So if your resolution is 600 pixels tall this will make no difference. On higher resolutions this will make the console a bit faster than before.

d8a33d73cc R_CullSurfaces: small optimization. Avoid doing (s->visframe == r_visframecount) test on all world surfaces, instead, use the surfaces in the world texture chains, which already passed that test in R_MarkSurfaces.

7c1e078b2a PF_VarString: raise buffer size to 1024. I checked all buffers that the resulting string could end up in, and they're all at least 1024 bytes (even with an unmodified quake client).
PF_VarString is only called on the server, in:
- PF_error, PF_objerror, PF_dprint to print error / debugging messages
- PF_bprint, which calls SV_BroadcastPrintf which copies the string into a 1024-byte buffer, then sends that to clients in a svc_print message
- PF_sprint, which sends the string in a svc_print message using MSG_WriteString (without copying into an intermediate buffer)
- PF_centerprint, which sends the return value of PF_VarString in a svc_centerprint message (without copying into an intermediate buffer)

On the client:
- svc_print reads the payload string with MSG_ReadString (2048-byte buffer), then Con_Printf is called (4096-byte buffer)
- svc_centerprint uses MSG_ReadString then calls SCR_CenterPrint (1024-byte buffer)

I also checked the original quake source and the client-side buffers for MSG_ReadString, Con_Printf, and SCR_CenterPrint are all the same sizes as in QS.

Admittedly I want to support sock's ITS mod, but as far as I can see, it's a totally safe to increase this to 1024.

745fa7ecce Simple use of vertex arrays in R_DrawTextureChains_Multitexture.
The glBegin(GL_POLYGON), for() loop with GL_MTexCoord2fFunc()/glVertex3fv() calls, and glEnd () per polygon is replaced by a memcpy() and a glDrawArrays() call per poly.

My guess is this only saves function call overhead, but it gives a decent ~20% speedup (36 -> 42fps) on my machine on orl’s map.

Note: glDrawArrays() is in OpenGL 1.1, but the glClientActiveTextureARB function is part of the GL_ARB_multitexture extension but not GL_SGIS_multitexture. Instead of splitting into two code paths, I just dropped support for GL_SGIS_multitexture.

9c6f93eb8a Remove R_DrawSequentialPoly and use texture chains for drawing brush models.
To make this work with the drawing order we use in gl_rmain (world excluding water, opaque ents, world water, transparent ents), I made each texture_t have two texture chains, one for world and one for bmodels. This way they can be cleared during entity drawing without having to regenerate the world ones.

Other than this the changes are mostly minor adjustments to the R_DrawTextureChains_* functions so they can work for things other than the world.

a7bf2f59a4 Apply Baker's fix for cross-map demo playback (http://forums.inside3d.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2397).
With that alone, the console would come down and slide up when the map changes in a demo.
I added a SCR_BeginLoadingPlaque() call in CL_ParseServerInfo, only done during demo playback, which shows the loading plaque and prevents the console from appearing and sliding up.

9bd02ae55b cl_parse.c: hack so demos playback at the correct speed even if they contain a lot of svc_stufftext messages (e.g. one every frame).
for a test case, play a demo from: http://www.quaketastic.com/upload/files/demos/otp_honey100.zip
for the honey map pack: http://www.quaketastic.com/upload/files/single_player/maps/honey.zip
on a slow pc that gets signifigantly less than 72fps, or with host_maxfps lowered (e.g. set to 33).

with QS 0.85.9, the demo will play in slow-motion; with QS 0.85.6 (without the cross-map demo support) it plays normally.

admittedly this is a fringe scenario, but it's imo a legitimate bug in the Pa3PyX cross-map demo playback code.

d10512a72b Fence texture support on brush models, e.g. for rmqdemo2 e1m6rq.bsp. Based on Baker's implementation in Fitz Mark V. Consistent with Fitz Mark V, RMQEngine, FTEQW rendering.
Not implemented for world polys (afaik it's useless for world polys) but could be added if needed.

28134aca63 Change Cvar_Cycle_f to use Q_atof to be consistent with other cvar code. Q_atof("0.3"), a float, does not == atof("0.3"), a double.
Fixes "cycle r_wateralpha 0.3 0.6 1" not working reported by AAS.

0824c53967 r_brush.c: small optimization in R_DrawSequentialPoly; move the drawing of fullbrights to a separate function, and draw them in a separate pass through the polys of the brush mode. This reduces the amount of texture binding. The extreme case would be, e.g. 1000 polys with one texture (with fullbrights), before would require 2000 binds, after would require 2 binds. This gets part way to the performance of https://sourceforge.net/p/quakespasm/patches/14/ with much less code change

9894c0b00d Raise MAX_ENT_LEAFS from 16 to 32, fixes disappearing/flickering bmodels in some situations. In particular fixes an elevator in fort_driant-fullvis.bsp, and a grate (func_door) in jam1_ionous.bsp.
From what I understand, if an entity touches more than MAX_ENT_LEAFS, it will only be visible
if the player happens to be standing in one of the first 'MAX_ENT_LEAFS' (so essentially random).

1fd8a1f344 bump MAX_EFRAGS to 4096 (from 2048) and MAX_CHANNELS to 1024 (from 512). For ijed's map - has over 500 ambient sounds, causing it to hit the channel limit, and a lot of static entities, which I guess cause it to exceed the old efrags limit. For future reference, according to mh, the efrags array can be removed entirely in glquake (http://forums.inside3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=1930) and each efrag allocated in the hunk memory.

Can speed up map loading by multiple seconds on levels with a lot of lightmaps, at a cost of using slightly more lightmaps (about 5% more).

931d4e9396 sfx lowpass filter patch
cvar changes:

The "sndspeed" cvar / "-sndspeed" command-line option now control whether the low-pass filter is applied. If it's set to 11025 you get the low-pass filter, otherwise it's not used.

New "snd_mixspeed" cvar (and the "-mixspeed" command-line option); these default to 44100 and just control the sample rate we request from SDL. Not archived.

New “snd_filterquality” cvar, value can be 1-5. Not archived. The “5” setting closely matches the Windows resampler, and the “1” setting closely matches the OS X resampler. The default depends on the OS, “5” is used on windows builds, otherwise “1”, because I wanted the sfx to sound the same as they do with 0.85.9 on each platform. TODO is checking if a setting other than 1 sounds closer to the system resampler on linux (though it probably depends on the distro).

The lowpass filter is only used for sndspeed=11025 and snd_mixspeed=44100, though these are the defaults.

b56f757a15 move MAX_OSPATH definition to q_stdinc.h. define it as PATH_MAX,
or as MAXPATHLEN, _MAX_PATH, or MAX_PATH if either of them is
available, or as 1024 if none are available. this would make us
safer in deep installation directory paths.  darkplaces engine
seems to do the same.

aa885d4efa When crosshair is present, for simple messages (SCR_DrawCenterString), text doesnt always end with a newline (eg E1 entry in startmap), so move message up one line. Doesnt affect large messages used via SCR_DrawNotifyString(eg Socks Shadow demo).

53e10c7098 Avoid using COM_DefaultExtension() whenever possible: it may lead
to unpredictable results. Use a new procedure COM_AddExtension()
which appends the given extension to the path if the one it has,

f784b8a769 Unix (at least Linux) man pages for mkdir(2) document the EEXIST
error: "pathname already exists (not necessarily as a directory).
This includes the case where pathname is a symbolic link, dangling

c8ebc6ce64 Base FOV adapting on screen resolution instead of viewport resolution.
By doing this we still adapt to widescreen resolutions automatically,
but we now keep the horizontal FOV a constant for any given resolution.
E.g. if the aspect of the viewport changes (for instance when the user
changes the statusbar from transparent to solid) we adapt the vertical
FOV instead of the horizontal FOV (like original GLQuake does). For any
4:3 screen resolution quakespasm now behaves the same with or without
fov_adapt set, regardless of viewport size/aspect. This fixes the issue
reported by mh at http://forums.inside3d.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5166.

ffa3bf4413 Merge several FS_* and snd_codec* layer updates from uhexen2 tree:
tidy-ups in FS* stdio replacement functions. add new FS_filelength.
snd codec layer updates: changed codec_open() to operate only on a
stream pointer and moved all file open/close stuff to snd_codec.c.
codec_open now only returns true or false upon success or failure
instead of a stream pointer. added new snd_codec.c toplevel helper
S_CodecForwardStream(), which allows one codec to hand over its
stream from its codec_open() to another codec. Support for tracker
(mod) music, including support for Unreal umx containers. (might
be useful if we ever make a Nehahra version of the engine some day.
edit the makefiles to enable when compiling.)

dd9f105e42 * snd_codec: store the samplebits value in the snd_info_t struct,
and add a new blocksize field to it which the flac decoder can
use. updated decoder sources for the snd_info_t changes, where
I made minor tidy-ups too, tightening several format checks and
fixing a few gotchas in snd_wave.c and snd_mem.c.
* snd_flac.c: adjusted for snd_info_t changes. no longed storing
metadata->data.stream_info in our private data, but just storing
a pointer to the stream->info structure. No longer checking the
metadata total_samples field (the FLAC__StreamMetadata_StreamInfo
doesn't seem to have any alignment or pack attributes and I don't
safe with its offset across different compilers), but added check
to make sure that we hit and parsed a STREAMINFO metadata instead,
and our new state seems just fine for validating the file.

204c6290b2 convert our GL_RGB lightmaps to GL_RGBA which gives considerable
performance boost on some systems. add GL_BGRA as an option, thanks
to Kristian Duske. the format is hardcoded as GL_RGBA for now,
need a way to make it configurable later.

a86fc9a175 Make the "speedkey" act as "slowkey" when "always run" is on.
A bit of a hack, this should really be controlled by a
separate "cl_alwaysrun" cvar, but lets stick to this for
backward compatibility for now.

1f6e608267 pr_cmds.c, pr_exec.c, pr_edict.c, sv_main.c: Changed several Sys_Error()
calls to Host_Error(). ED_PrintEdict_f(),ED_PrintEdicts() and ED_Count()
require an active server to print any infos. ED_PrintEdict_f cannot work
with a negative argument.

9f8b2dfc0d added IN_UpdateForKeydest() as a new helper who does stuff if the
key_dest changes matter to the keyboard driver, e.g. sending KP_
key decisions, or SDL unicode stuff. we run it every frame either
before Sys_SendKeyEvents() or from within Key_ForceDest() for now.
(merged from uhexen2.)

9a78c9e829 some merges from uhexen2: clean up some crap in long chat line support.
do not set messagemode when not really connected. made chat_buffer[] and
chat_bufferlen static to keys.c. console.c uses new Key_GetChatBuffer()
and Key_GetChatMsgLen() accessor functions. renamed team_message global
to chat_team as in qw/q2. added Key_EndChat() as a new helper. called
Key_EndChat() from within CL_Disconnect() to not get stuck in chat mode.
now that key_message is guaranteed to be set only in game mode, removed
its cases from Key_ForceDest(). several other cleanups.

50e014d050 Updated support for building the OSX versions using Makefile.darwin. Do
not rely on sdl-config on OSX Framework builds, define new SDL_FRAMEWORK
and NO_SDL_CONFIG preprocessor macros to indicate that and include SDL.h
with the "SDL" subdirectory name included. Add new libmad and ogg/vorbis
headers and static and dynamic libraries for macosx. Xcode project files
need further updating.

5a2a7d96a7 * keys.h: renamed KP_* key macros to K_KP_*.
* key.c (Key_ClearStates): Instead of clearing all key's down state
  and repeat count, run KeyEvent(k,false) keys in down state, which
  will already clear those states for them. This also helps getting
  rid of several actions bound to keypad keys. Minor cleanups.
* gl_vidsdl.c (ClearAllStates): Removed code triggering every key
  with a release event, because we just changed Key_ClearStates() to
  do that for the necessary keys.
* in_sdl.c: Minor cleanups. Made K_KP_5 to send '5' when not in game
  mode, regardless of the numlock status. Moved prev_gamekey to top
  level and call SDL_EnableUNICODE() correctly.

c66cadc05a removed the envmap command which drew to front buffer. adjusted the

d8f3f2a1d3 common.c: until COM_CheckRegistered() is called keep the value of the
registered cvar as 1, set it right in COM_CheckRegistered().  fixes the
problem of registered game installed from later versions of cdroms not

d9711fdfa2 Limited the struct qsocket_s details only to net_*.c sources :
For menu serverlist handling, added new procedures NET_SlistSort,
NET_SlistPrintServer and NET_SlistPrintServerName. Added new
procedure NET_QSocketGetTime for status and spawn commands' print
functionality in host_cmd.c. Added new NET_QSocketGetAddressString

92f7731114 gl_texmgr.c (TexMgr_ReloadImage): reduced the hunk memory usage during
reloading of images from the bsp by not loading the whole file but by
opening the file, fseek()ing and allocating only the necessary amount.
This way, I can load and reload a save of ne_ruins with just the default
64 Mb of memory on x86 and with only 68.5 Mb of memory (-heapsize 70000)
on x86_64.

cbd6732189 gl_texmgr.c: Make "gl_texturemode" a cvar with callback.
This has the benefit that it is stored in "config.cfg",
and is reset by "resetall" and "resetcfg". Other than
that though, it behaves exactly the same as before.
(The same console input will lead to the same result
as before when it was a command.)

c96c275334 some common.c cleanup: Made COM_InitFilesystem() public through common.h,
moved its calling from COM_Init() to Host_Init() just after COM_Init().
Moved registration of registered and cmdline cvars and COM_Path_f command
and the calling of COM_CheckRegistered() to COM_InitFilesystem(). Removed
unused memsearch(). Fixed the stupidity in leading space elimination from
com_cmdline.

5938fe8c3e some more cvar work: made Cvar_RegisterVariable() to only link the variable in
and set some basic flags, but then let functions to set it. Added Cvar_SetQuick
and Cvar_SetValueQuick which accept a cvar pointer instead of a var name, but
identical to the non-Quick versions otherwise. Made Cvar_SetValue to print the
value as an integer if the float value is the same when cast to an int; if not,

e2a17c9bcf * gl_screen.c: removed oldscreensize, oldfov, oldsbarscale, oldsbaralpha.
use the callbacks for scr_fov, scr_viewsize, scr_conwidth & scr_conscale
changes by simply setting vid.recalc_refdef to 1: now that Cvar_Set()
doesn't do anything when there is no change, this has the same effect.
* snd_dma.c: removed oldvol, set a callback to sfxvol in order to call
SND_InitScaletable() upon every volume change.

1928f2e1b8 * first shot at cvar flag system and cvar layer clean-ups :
- removed the archive and server members of cvar_t structure
  which are now represented by the CVAR_ARCHIVE, CVAR_NOTIFY
  and CVAR_SERVERINFO flags.
- added new Cvar_SetROM and Cvar_SetValueROM functions to 
  set vars marked as CVAR_ROM (read-only vars) programaticaly
- added Cvar_SetCallback() as a new function to assign (or
  remove) a callback function to a cvar.
- changed Cvar_RegisterVariable() to only accept a var pointer
  as in original quake
- moved notification handling from Cvar_Set() to callbacks.
- changed Cvar_Set() so that it doesn't reallocate the var's
  string buffer if nothing is changed, nor does it run the
  var's callback.
- changed the 'registered' and 'cmdline' cvars to be read-only
  so that the users can't change it using the console.  (and
  with 'registered' flagged as CVAR_ROM, the 'static_registered'
  thing is no longer required)
- added comment that sending cmdline upon CCREQ_RULE_INFO is
  evil...
- more to follow later.

5f0d6b07d1 finally nailed the SubdividePolygon() segfault when running as a dedicated
server: R_Init() isn't called for dedicated server therefore gl_subdivide_size
was used without being registered hence divisions by zero when using its value
member. Geez.. Moved its registration to Mod_Init() and we are good.

1befaa5a49 gl_vidsdl.c fixes/changes from Sander van Dijk: if (hypothetically) no
fullscreen modes are reported at all fixes bad behaviour of several
options in the video menu, and allows the user to use "-force" to force
a fullscreen mode even if none was reported; this was previously only
possible if there was at least one fullscreen mode reported), makes the
treatment of "-current" more similar to "-width/-height/-bpp" (only
forcing it if the user provides "-force"), gets rid of leavecurrentmode
hack (which didn't do much useful, besides making the code less clear).

396167e0c7 pr_exec.c (PR_ExecuteProgram): Implemented some of LordHavoc's
optimizations mostly by removing the temporary eval_t *a,*b and *c
variables and replacing them by OPA, OPB and OPC macros. Removed
the statement index s and used the statement pointer instead,
updating the pr_xstatement global whenever necessary. In OP_STATE,
stored OPA->_float to ed->v.frame without comparing them (I don't
understand the significance to the comparison.)  Casted st->a, b
and c to unsigned short instead of using them signed as they are
as the pr_globals index value. Updated profiling code.

199cc406ed cd_sdl.c: Reverted the CDAudio_Update() change from 27 Oct: it does
not make things better.  Removed the SDL_CDStatus() check before the
error message in case of SDL_CDPlay() failures: I don't really know
the significance to it and witnessed that it caused the error report
once, so I don't see any merit in its presence.
